Deogarh: Barkote Police seized around 200 litres of country-made liquor and arrested six persons from Saruali village here on Wednesday.
The arrested were identified as Goutam Nayak, Manas Nayak, Rusikesh Dalei, Pratap Kumar Sahu, Kishore Chandra Sahu, and Dilip Kumar Sahu, all resident of Saruali village.
The crackdown came following public complaints about the operation of an illegal brewery near Saruali village and the supply of country-made liquor from there.
Acting on reliable inputs, a team led by Barkote IIC Chittaranjan Behera, SI Pradip Ranjan Patra & Debabrata Nayak, and ASI Purushottam Behera conducted a surprise raid at the illegal brewery and arrested the six persons found to be involved in the illegal business.
Around 200 litres of spurious country-made liquor, four motorcycles and other materials used for brewing liquor were seized during the raid. Besides, the arrested persons have been forwarded to the court today, sources in the police informed.
As per the preliminary investigation, it was learned that the liquor mafia are running their business in the area by greasing the palms of some corrupt officials of the Excise department, the sources further added.
