Sambalpur: An engineering student was rusticated from VSS University of Technology (VSSUT) today while four others were suspended from the hostel after they were found involved in ragging of junior students.
While the rusticated student was BTech Third Year, four other belong to the fourth year. Besides, the authorities have also penalised 25 students with a fine of Rs 2,000 each for their involvement in ragging.
The stringent move came after the Anti-Ragging Committee under the chairmanship of VSSUT vice-Chancellor Atal Choudhury took serious note of the ragging allegations in the college premises by the senior students.
The anti-ragging committee had received a complaint from the junior students on Friday following which an urgent meeting was called by the VC.
In the meeting, it has been decided that the security personnel will keep a strict vigil on first year students while they commute between the hostels and the college, and vice-versa, said an official adding that, the authorities have also decided to install more CCTV camera in the college premises to regularly monitor the activities of the students.
