20 labourers from Ganjam held captive in Hyderabad

Berhampur: As many as 20 labourers from Ganjam district’s Sanakhemundi area have been allegedly held captive and tortured by their employers at Hyderabad.

The matter came into light after one of the labourers shared a video on social media regarding their condition.

The labourer, in the video, alleged that they were denied salary since the past two months and facing exploitation and torture. While they were promised a daily wage of Rs 550, later they were tortured and even denied basic necessities including food, he added.

As per sources, the labourers were lured by a cable company named Punna Balaji, which sent them to work in a Hyderabad-based company Neno Electronics.

Meanwhile, the family members of the victims have approached the district administration seeking help for their safe return.

Notably, Odisha Labour Department on December 28 successfully rescued seventeen women labourers, who were held captive by the owner of a brick kiln in Telangana.
