2-month-old dies, parents allege vaccine reaction
Dhenkanal: Tension prevailed in Kamalanga village under Kantabania police limits in Dhenkanal district after a two-month-old baby died on Wednesday after being administered with injection and polio drops.
The deceased baby Sanjit was the son of Dusmant Penthei of the village. The family alleged that the ASHA workers were responsible for the infant’s death.
The parents of the deceased lodged a complaint at Kantabania police alleging that their child died due to the reaction of immunisation.
Reportedly, the infant was taken to Barsahi Anganwadi centre for vaccination on Tuesday morning where he was administered with the injection for polio vaccination.
While the condition of the child was stable till Tuesday afternoon, his body temperature started rising. Assuming it to be the side effects of immunisation, Sanjit’s parents did not take him to the hospital.
However, when the child developed respiratory problems, he was admitted to Angul district headquarters hospital, where the doctors declared him dead on Wednesday morning.
On being informed, a team of health officials visited the village. The body was sent for postmortem and the autopsy report will clarify the reason behind the death, said CDMO Basudev Behera.
