2 dead, 20 hurt as bus carrying pilgrims rams truck in Bhadrak


Bhadrak: Two persons were killed while 20 other passengers sustained critical injuries, as the bus they were travelling in dashed into the rear of a bamboo-laden truck near Charampa on NH-16 in Bhadrak district late last night.

The deceased were identified as Ram Sagar Yadav, the bus driver and Shivnarayan Misra, a passenger.

According to sources, the incident occurred at around 2.30 am when the bus with 50 pilgrims on board was en route to Puri from Barabaki district of Uttar Pradesh. The bus driver lost control over the wheels and rammed the rear of the bamboo-laden truck.

On being informed, police reached the spot and rescued the injured passengers while seizing the dead bodies for post-mortem.

The injured persons were rushed to Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), while one critically injured woman, the deceased Shivnarayan’s wife, was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as her health condition deteriorated.

According to reports, the district administration and the local NGOs have provided the injured passengers with food and necessary medication.
