15 killed in cargo plane crash in Iran

Tehran: A cargo plane crashed near the Iranian city of Karaj on Monday killing at least 15 people on board, media reports said.

The Boeing 707 plane carrying 16 on board crashed in a residential area, 45 km west of Tehran, news agencies said.

Reports said the plane was supposed to land in Karaj’s Payam Airport but the pilot mistakenly took the plane to the Fath airport. The airport was not suited for large cargo aircraft.

The cargo plane went out of control and overshot the runway after hitting an empty residential building, reports said. It caught fire after jumping the runway.
