14 passengers shot dead by assailants in Pakistan


Gwadar: As many as 14 passengers were shot dead by unidentified assailants on the Makran Coastal Highway in Ormara of Balochistan province in Pakistan on Thursday.

According to reports, a group of 15-20 unidentified armed assailants waylaid five to six buses travelling between Karachi and Gwadar. Later, they checked the passenger’s identity cards and forcibly offloaded 16 passengers from the bus.

While 14 were shot dead, two others managed to escape and reached the nearest Levies Checkpost.

Based on the statement of the victims, Levies and other law enforcement personnel reached the spot and launched an investigation into the incident.

The victims were identified through their CNICs and shot at close range. A naval official and a coast guard member were among those killed, informed the home secretary.

The bodies of the victims were recovered from Noor Baksh Hotel. However, the exact cause behind the incident and the identity of the victims are yet to be ascertained.
