12-hr bandh by OSRTC employees hits normal life in Bhanjanagar
Ganjam: A 12-hour bandh in Bhanjanagar over opposing the decision to relocate the OSRTC unit has affected normal life in Ganjam district on Tuesday.
The bandh has been called by the contractual employees of Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC).
According to sources, the members of the outfit had been demanding to clear the pending salary of 7 months since long. After their demands were not fulfilled, the agitators today observed the bandh. Besides, they also opposed the decision to relocate the OSRTC unit.
The agitators were seen picketing in front of several offices since morning to press for their demand. Meanwhile, several organisations have extended their support to the bandh.
Markets, business establishments, educational institutions, and government offices have remained closed in view of the bandh. Vehicular movement has also been affected due to the bandh.
However, emergency services have been exempted from the purview of the bandh.
The agitators have threatened to further intensify their protest if their demands are not fulfilled at the earliest. Police personnel have been deployed to thwart any untoward incident.
