10k reward for info on pangolin smuggling


Athagarh: In a bid to curb pangolin smuggling in the state, the Forest department on Sunday announced a cash reward of Rs 10,000 for providing information about the illegal trade.

Making the announcement, Athagarh DFO Sasmita Lenka said, “The teams of Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) have also arrested two more persons after eliciting information from other accused persons during the interrogation. So far, 14 persons have been arrested.”

“As many as 10 pangolin scales have been recovered from the arrested persons. The accused were also found to be involved in poaching other wildlife animals,” Lenka added.

It may be mentioned here that a two-member team of WCCB on Saturday carried out marathon interrogation of all the accused persons arrested on charges of pangolin smuggling.
