Bhubaneswar: As many as 10 places in Odisha recorded maximum temperature of above 40 °C and the mercury soared to 41 °C or above at six places, the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre said on Wednesday.
In its evening bulletin on weather observations, the IMD regional centre here informed that Boudh was the hottest place in the state today with the temperature touching 41.8 °C followed by Malkangiri at 41.6 °C, Titilagarh at 41.5 °C, Balangir at 41.5 °C, Angul at 41.3 °C and Bhawanipatna at 41 °C.
In Jharsuguda, the temperature was recorded at 40.8 °C, and at Nayagarh 40.6 °C while Sambalpur and Talcher recorded 40.4 °C today.
The mercury remained below 40 °C in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack with 36.8 °C and 38.2 °C respectively.
The IMD regional office has issued a ‘Yellow Warning’ indicating that hot and humid weather with heat wave conditions and warmer nights is very likely to prevail in the State till April 6 (Saturday).
During the next 2 days, there is a possibility of a gradual rise in maximum temperature (Day Temperature) by 2 to 3 degrees at a few places over the districts of Odisha and no large change thereafter, the Met Centre said.
Due to prevailing Northwesterly/Westerly dry air and high solar insolation, the maximum temperature is likely to be more than 40°C at many places over the districts of Odisha and likely to be above normal by 2 to 4°C from 4th to 6th April 2024.
Also, maximum temperature is likely to be between 39 to 41°C at a few places over the districts of interior Odisha and between 37 to 39°C over the coastal districts of Odisha during the next 3 to 4 days, the IMD said.
The weather agency has advised people to take precautionary measures while going outside during the time between 11 AM and 3 PM.
