Being able to see with your eyes closed, is surely much like a superpower that humans only wish they had. But to much surprise, the power is not that rare- but not among humans, of course, among animals instead. So we thought to introduce you to some of those animals that carry that ‘superpower’. From snakes to camels, many can see you with their eyelids shut! Ruling the ‘power’ the list has several reptiles, along with a few unexpected animals. So, here is a list of 10 animals that can see with their eyes closed. The list was compiled by Northeastwildlife.
Snakes
The next on the list are snakes. They don’t exactly close their eyes, but they do have a protective layer, called brille.
Skinks
The first on the list are skinks. These small lizards can see with their eyes closed, or more like their eyelids are too thin which hinders them from going pitch black, unlike humans.
Camels
We do have a furry one on the list- camel. Considering the fact that their natural habitat deals a lot with sand, it only makes sense that they have three eyelids to protect them from dust. However, the protective layer is also translucent giving them a spot on this list.
Chameleons
Ruling this list, we have another reptile- chameleon. They surely do have a weird system. This reptile enjoys the presence of two eyelids, but they also have a hole in the middle that allows them to see. Surly wired.
Armadillos
For this one, the conditions are a bit different. Armadillos are the animals that use their shells as the ultimate shield when they roll up into a ball. They do have a small opening to see where they are going, even when they are curled up into a deadly ball.
Oriental Bay Owl
The next on the list is an Oriental Bay Owl. This one’s case is similar to the Chameleons. They have slits in their eyelids, through which they can still see with their eyes closed.
Octopus
The next on the list is the Octopus. Is there anything that these aquatic animals can’t do? With their ‘light-sensitive pigment’ all over their skin, they can ‘detect’ light from anywhere.
Frogs
Next on the list are the frogs, who share a similar mechanism with the camels. They have a thin ‘lid’ that they use underwater to protect their eyes from particles.
Platypus
Another animal on the list does not exactly belong to this list but somehow found a loophole. Platypus reportedly has ‘tiny openings’ in the platypus bill.
Box Turtle
Much like the Armadillos, a box turtle can see when it hides inside its shell, using a tiny opening on the front.
