Sambalpur: A youth was arrested in Sambalpur district on Wednesday on charges of cheating a number of girls by posing him as a Sub Inspector (SI) of Odisha Police.
The impostor SI has been identified as Ratneswar Majhi, son of Sanatan Majhi of Sendritanagar in Sundergarh district.
According to reports, a girl lodged a complaint at Govindpur police station against Ratneswar following which a team led by IIC Biswapati Panda conducted a raid on house of the accused last night and arrested him.
The police seized a fake Identity Card used by the imposter, cash worth Rs 800, three mobile phones, five ATM cards along with his Aadhar and PAN cards.
The accused had managed to establish contacts with a number of girls in the area over social media, by posing him as SI of either Rourkela Special Squad or Bamra police station. He was also threatening the victim girls and their families to falsely implicate in cases whenever needed.
Cases under Sections 170,171,419,420, 354,294,506 of IPC have been lodged against the held impostor and he has been forwarded to court today.
