Patnagarh: A youth who was on the run after allegedly attacking a woman labourer with a knife on September 22 at Tendapadar village in Patnagarh in Bolangir district, was arrested by the police last night. The accused was identified as Brundabana Bariha.
Brundabana was arrested by the cops from Rampur bus stand after, he jumped in front of a moving passenger bus which was returning from Bolangir. The driver of the bus managed to stop, but Brundabans sustained injuries on his head.
On being informed, police reached the spot and admitted Brundabans to Patnagarh hospital where he is undergoing treatment amid tight security. A case has been registered against him under relevant Sections of the IPC, said the police.
According to the police, on Saturday, a woman labourer identified as Laxmi Mahalinga of Tendapadar village was returning home along with two others from a farmland when Brundabans attacked her with a knife near an isolated place.
She was initially rushed her to the Bolangir district headquarters hospital and later to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after her heath condition worsened.
Based on preliminary investigation, police suspects that Brundabans had attacked the woman over an one-sided love affair, sources said.
