Bhubaneswar: A conference for women empowerment was hosted at the Exhibition Ground in the city today to mark legendary leader Biju Patnaik’s birth centenary celebrations as well as 80th year of Odisha province connotation. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik addressed over 20,000 women gathered at the ‘Mahila Samavesh’.
Women self help groups in the state will get 1000 crore credit linkage this year with only one percent interest, said CM Patnaik. “Biju babu was the first Odia leader to take steps to bring women into mainstream and empowered them. We will carry forward his vision of making women skilled and empowered,” he said. The state government has planned to increase credit linkage for SHGs from Rs 500 crores to Rs 1000 crores to ensure women in SHGs can double their income, he said.
The CM said that Mission Shakti has turned into a silent revolution for Odia women. Indeed, already over 50 lakh women in the state have come under its fold.
Among various BJD ministers and MLAs present at the conference, Panchayati Raj minister Arun Sahoo also addressed the gathering.
