Kolkata: Rattled by the Calcutta High Court’s verdict on Durga idols’ immersion, defiant West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said that someone can slit her throat but no one can tell her what to do.

“Someone can slit my throat but no one can tell me what to do,” the chief minister said.

She further added that she will do what she can in order to keep peace in the state. “I will do what I can to keep peace,” Banerjee said.

Earlier, the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday questioned West Bengal government for its decision restricting immersion of Durga idols on October 1 as Muharram falls on the same day.

The High Court asked “When you (state government) are firm there is communal harmony in the state, why are you creating communal distinction between the two?”
