Kolkata: The opposition Congress, Left Front and the BJP delegations were on Friday stopped from entering violence hit Basirhat in West Bengal.
Tension brewed up at Basirhat town and station area after the communal clashes in Baduria, forcing the police to lob teargas shells and baton charge even as life returned to normalcy in strife-torn Baduria in North 24 Parganas district.
Communal clashes broke out in Baduria in Basirhat sub- division of the district on Monday following an objectionable Facebook post by a teenager. Following the post, the government to dispatch 400 BSF troopers to assist the local administration in controlling the situation.
The violence that began on Monday in Baduria, gradually spread across other towns injuring several locals. Mob resorted to arson and blocked roads and rail.
