Water logging throws normal life out of gear in Cuttack

Water logging

Cuttack: The incessant rains on Sunday night exposed the tall claims of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) about its preparedness to deal with water logging problem.

The low-lying areas across the Silver City were waterlogged. Many interior parts and low-lying areas like Meria Bazar, Roxy Lane, Raja Bagicha, Badambadi, OMP Square, Idgah padia, Thoria Sahi, Ganga Mandir Mansinghp were flooded with rain water.

Situation was so worse that rain water along with drain water gushed into the houses of people residing in low-lying areas. People were seen struggling hard to deal with the situation.

While citizens have blamed CMC’s negligence for the water logging situation, the civic body authorities have attributed the problem to the ongoing drainage work in the city.

The district administration has engaged as many as 155 high-power pumps and 24 Volvo pumps at different places to pump out floodwater due to continuous heavy downpour.

Most of the pumps that have been deployed are of high horsepower. These pumps would be able to ensure quick draining out of accumulated rainwater from the main surface water channel into the Taladanda canal, said a CMC official.

District administration has declared holiday for all schools.
