Bhubaneswar: The most wanted criminal under Commissionerate police, “Paatu” alias, Shahjaan Khan was arrested here in the city on Thursday with the help of the local residents. Earlier the police had announced a reward of Rs 5000 on the arrest of Paatu. Now with the involvement of more than one individual, the police is confused regarding the actual beneficiary of the reward money.
During late night on March 1, after a tussle and chase by the police, Paatu was arrested from Kalinganagar under Khandagiri police station while planning for a dacoit in the area, whereas his other partners successfully fled away from the place. Paatu was critical and was shifted to the Capital Hospital and later to SCB Hospital at Cuttack for treatment. On March 4, while shifting him from the surgical ward to orthopedic ward for getting his leg plastered, Paatu with an excuse to vomit fled from the spot.
Failing to get his whereabouts, police on March 8 had announced reward money of Rs 5000 on his arrest. As per sources, about nine months after the incident, on Thursday, Paatu alongwith his other partners tried to snatch chain from a woman, Sarojini Pradhan while returning home from Gada Sahi temple in Nayapalli (behind Regional Passport Office). After Sarojini screamed aloud, locals rushed and handed him over to the police. Police has issued court challan against all of the accused and later would bring Paatu in remand to know the details of the crimes if conducted during the last nine months.
Police said after investigation it is found that following his escape from the hospital, Paatu was in Kolkata and later returned to Odisha.
