Srinagar: Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces on Tuesday morning in Handwara area of Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The terrorists have been identified as Liyaqat from Harwan in Baramulla district’s Sopore and 18-year-old Furkaan from Langate in Kupwara district’s Handwara. Both the deceased were locals.
Reportedly, the Indian Army’s 30 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), the 92nd Battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Special Operations Group (SOG) after receiving specific information about the presence of terrorists, launched a cordon and carried out a search in the area early in the wee hours of Tuesday.
However, the search operation turned into a gun battle after the militants opened fire on the security forces.
“Arms and ammunition were also recovered from the site of encounter. Search in the area is going on,” said an army official.
