Sundergarh/ Koraput: Vigilance sleuths on Wednesday conducted simultaneous raids at the office, residence and four other places belonging to Manoranjan Mohanty, a Forest Guard of Koida range in Sundergarh district, for amassing wealth disproportionate to his known source of income.
The Vigilance team, under the guidance of SP (vigilance wing) Swarup Kumar Parida, also conducted raids at residence of Mohanty’s father in law.
The officials seized bank passbooks, gold ornaments, a car, huge amount of cash and other valuable properties during the raids.
However, the total valuation of seized property yet to be ascertained, a vigilance official said.
In another case, Vigilance officials arrested Koraput district civil supplies officer Ballav Chandra Das on Tuesday night while taking Rs 50,000 bribe from a miller to clear pending bills.
Sources said, Das had demanded the bribe to clear pending bills of Rs 22 lakh from a miller P. Sannamukha Babu.
Based on Babu’s complaint, Vigilance officials of Koraput division laid a trap and conducted raid at the office of the supplies official and caught him red handed while accepting the bribe from the miller.
