Cuttack: Chauliaganj police arrested two persons for allegedly stabbing a youth during a robbery who later died at Banabidyadharpur on National Highway 55 in Cuttack.
The accused were identified as Amritraj Sahoo (26) of Manglabagh and Sunil Sahoo (20) of Rajuapatna in Cuttack.
According to police, Priya Ranjan Jena (31), a resident of Bramhanbada, was on his way to home after his duty at around 10 pm on the night of June 17 when the two accused stalked him and waylaid him at Banabidyadharpur. The accused duo then assaulted and stabbed him on the back of his head with a screwdriver.
When Jena fell unconscious due to the injuries, the accused duo snatched his mobile phone, a bag containing Rs 700 and other official materials and fled from the spot.
On being informed, a PCR van reached the spot and rushed Jena to the SCB Medical College and Hospital. Later, police informed the family members of the victim.
Later, the victim was shifted to Amri hospital by his family members after his condition deteriorated. The victim succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital on June 22.
On basis of the complaint of the deceased’s father, the police had registered a case and launched a probe. During the investigation, the police nabbed the accused persons on suspicion and arrested them last night after they confessed to the crime. The accused were forwarded to the court on Monday, a police said.
