Two held for hurling bombs at restaurant in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The Capital police on Thursday arrested two persons for allegedly hurling bombs at a restaurant in Bhubaneswar the previous night.

The accused were identified as Pradipta Kumar Sahoo alias Star Pintu (27) of Bhimatanki under Airfield police limits and Biswaranjan Pati aka Lucky (25) of BDA Colony, Chandrasekharpur. They were arrested from Bhimpur at 2 pm.

According to sources, the duo had hurled bombs targeting the restaurant and bar located near a food junction at Bapuji Nagar at 10.35 pm on Wednesday causing damage and injury to a person. On the basis of the complaint of Milind Gupta, a case was registered at the Capital police station.

During the investigation, the police verified the footage of CCTV cameras installed in nearby areas and traced the accused duo and nabbed them. The police came to know that the accused duo had previous enmity with the security guard of food junction bar.

They had come on a motorcycle and terrorized the security guard. They threw two bombs at the food junction bar causing damage to glasses. The manager of the restaurant, Surendra Pattanaik, was injured in the attack.

The accused duo admitted to the crime. Further probe is going on to ascertain whether more persons were involved. Accused Star Pintu is a history-sheeter having involvement in more than five cases, police said.
