Two arrested for pilfering crude oil, police seizes oil worth Rs 35 lakh

Balasore: In a major breakthrough, police has arrested two persons in connection with the case of crude oil theft from Haldia-Paradip underground pipeline.

The accused have been identified as Sk Ali of Medinapur and Md Jabir Ansari (24) of Malda in West Bengal.

According to sources, police nabbed the duo at Ruksa in Balasore red-handedly with seizure of a sword and other tools from their possession while they were attempting to pilfer oil yesterday.

Police has also seized a lorry carrying 20,000 litres of crude oil worth a whooping of Rs 35 lakh.

A major mafia is operating the oil thefts from pipelines. Further probe into the matter is on and interrogation of the accused will unfold the fact regarding the series crude oil thefts, said a police official.

It may be noted that similar incidents of  oil theft had been reported previous year. The locals had reported crude oil seeping and spreading in their fields. After examining, police found the pipeline was bored in such a manner which indicated handiwork of oil mafia and not of amateur pilferers.
