Jeypore/Boriguma: Police claimed to have rescued 19 minor girls while they were being trafficked to Andhra Pradesh by bus and detained a couple in this connection in Koraput district on Thursday.
Acting on a tipoff, Boriguma police intercepted the bus plying between Umerkote of Nabarangpur district and Visakhapatnam and rescued the minor girls. They were being trafficked to Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh illegally. The minor girls were accompanied by the couple.
Later, the police brought the girls and their traffickers to the police station. “Whether the couple was trafficking the minor girls to Visakhapatnam to engage them as migrant labour or any other purpose will be ascertained after the detail investigation,” the police said.
“After rescuing the girls, we have summoned the district labour officer and district child protection officer to the police station,” said inspector-in-charge Sagarika Nath.
