Tiger ‘Manish’ dies at Nandankanan zoo
Bhubaneswar: After the death of an ailing bear, a male tiger named Manish died in Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) while undergoing treatment on Sunday.
According to sources, Manish aged about eight years was critically ill for the last six months and was undergoing treatment at the veterinary hospital of the zoo. He was under direct supervision of experts of Veterinary College of OUAT.
The tiger was suffering from Blood Protozoan disease caused by virus Cytauxzoon felis and died in the afternoon. With the death of Manish, the tiger population came down to 24 in the safari of the zoo.
Earlier in the day, a ailing bear died at Nandankanan due to prolonged illness. With this, the bear population dropped to 14 at the zoo.
On August 10, an eight-year-old African male lion had died while he was undergoing treatment. Another African lion of the same age died due to the same ailment on August 29. The number of lions in Nandankanan Zoological Park reduced to 12 after the death of two lions.
