Terror plot on Ganesh Chaturthi: Hizbul Mujahideen operative arrested
Kanpur: The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh arrested a member of terrorist organisation Hizbul Mujahideen from Kanpur on Thursday.
The suspect was arrested following a tip-off from the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He was identified as Qamar Uj Zama.
Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) OP Singh said that the arrested Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist was planning to carry out an attack on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.
Singh said that Zama, a native of Assam, was active from April 2018 when he had first posted his pictures on Facebook with AK 47. He joined the terror outfit in 2017, Singh added.
“During questioning he told us that he was trained in Kashmir in April 2017. He was planning to carry out attack in different parts of the state,” the DGP added.
The ATS officials said a cellphone was recovered from the possession of Zama which had blueprints of a religious place. He has confessed that he was an operative of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit.
