New Delhi: Three soldiers were killed as a fierce gunbattle broke out between militants and security forces in Nagrota area of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.
As per army sources, a group of heavily armed militants, believed to be four to five in number, attacked the garrison town of Nagrota near the headquarters of Army’s 16 corps, Jammu on Tuesday morning. Three terrorists are believed to have been killed but more are still hiding, sources said.
After being briefed on the Nagrota attack, defence minister Manhohar Parikar said, no civilian has been targeted as terrorists seek local support.
This is a suicide attack and terrorists have come from the Srinagar side of the national highway sources said. The army has cordoned off the area and all schools have been shut down.
In September, 19 soldiers were killed when terrorists from Pakistan attacked an army base in Uri. A few days later, the army carried out surgical strikes across the Line of Control targeting staging areas for terrorists planning to attack Indian cities.
