Bhubaneswar: While the state is celebrating the Teachers Day, block grant teachers and lecturers today observed the day as Black Day over non-fulfillment of their demands by the state government.
Braving the incessant rain, hundreds of agitating teachers under the banner of the Odisha School College Teachers and Employees’ United Forum staged a protest at the Mahatma Gandhi Marg here to press for their demands.
The agitating teachers have threatened to shut down all block grant schools and colleges from September 6 if their demand, which includes abolition of block grant system, equal pay for equal work and job regularisation, is not fulfilled by the state government.
They also threatened to gherao houses of MLAs across the State on September 6 and 7 and take out rallies in every panchayat from September 17 to press for their demands.
Notbaly, the teachers have been protesting near Lower PMG here from August 16 alleging that the government failed to address their issues.
