Dhenkanal: Crime Branch officials have arrested Hrudananda Biswal alias Tulu Biswal , a Samiti member from Khurda road railway station in the wee hours of Friday for his involvement in a political murder that took place in Tarabha village under Sadar police limits during the month of February.
Crime Branch Additional SP Sarbeswar Sahoo said that the newly elected Samiti member of Sankulei panchayat, who is a prime accused in the case was picked up from the train when he was returning from Chennai.
Later he was produced in Dhenkanal SDJM court amid tight security at about 12 pm and sent to jail for 14 days following the rejection of his bail plea.Sahoo said, if required Tulu would be taken on remand.
As per reports, Byomakesh Biswal alias Muka, a constable and a relative of Tulu, shot dead Salman Rout of the village following a group clash over putting up posters during the elections in February . Tension mounted on the village over the incident and prohibitory orders under CrPc Section 144 were imposed in the village following arson and vandalism.
Police registered a case and arrested three of the 15 accused in the incident. They were Byomakesh Biswal, Ex-Sarpanch and Tulu’s brother Chittaranja Biswal alias Tutu and Traiyambak Biswal. Police produced them in court and seized the weapon used in the murder.
Later, the case was handed over to Crime Branch for investigation. The Crime branch officials have arrested another accused Debendra Swain in the matter.
