Talcher: Union Coal Minister Piyush Goyal ordered a high-level probe into the Talcher land caving incident that occurred near the Town police station yesterday.

Goyal on his Twitter handle informed that he has ordered an inquiry into the incident. The fact finding enquiry team comprises experts from Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI) Limited and Mahanadi Coalfields Limited.

Meanwhile, palpable tension continued to prevail in the area today as police detained seven locals who were a part of the agitation against the MCL authorities and the district administration’s negligence over the issue.

Earlier yesterday, a 4-feet deep crater suddenly developed in the house of one Santilata Bai, near the town police station. As such incidents have been occurring repeatedly, residents of the town called for a city-wide bandh over the issue.

The locals alleged that MCL authorities had not filled the now-defunct Champapasi underground coal mines with sand due to which the crater had developed.
