Puri: Acting against unlawful encroachment in Swargadwara premises, Puri Municipality today initiated an eviction drive by demolishing a building constructed on one decimal land in the premises of the crematorium.
Besides, the district administration also demolished a two-storey building standing on Swargadwara land that had been owned by a local since past 10 years.
The eviction drive began after the nine-member committee probed into Swargadwara land grab allegations exposing facts of illegal encroachment in its report. The panel led by Puri Collector Arvind Agarwal has submitted its preliminary report to the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) Central Range, AB Ota.
Notably, Swargadwara was allotted with 16,735 acre land. However, out of it 10,342 acre land has been encroached.
Currently, the crematorium is confined to an area of 465 decimal.
