Supreme Court commences hearing on Rafale deal

New Delhi: The apex court has commenced hearing on the procurement of 36 Rafale fighter deal from France on Wednesday. An Indian Air Force Team is also being questioned on the defense deal if correct procedure was followed in the aircraft deal.

The apex court bench, comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and justices S K Kaul and K M Joseph observed that as the case is related to the requirements of the IAF, therefore, it was necessary to take the force’s version.

The apex court has asked Vice Chief of Air Force Air Marshal V R Chaudhari and two other senior officers to assist the bench. Sources said the court had asked the Air Vice Marshal about the latest induction of jets and the latest aircraft being manufactured in India.

There is no need to go into the details of price of the jets, the court said and added that the government does not need to share those details with the petitioners at this stage.
