Bhubaneswar: The Sum fire tragedy investigation by Commissionerate Police is underway for which police today visited DMET office as well as the Kalpana Square office of Fire Services Department. Police searched for documents related to fire clearance certificate application and conditional fire clearance of Sum Hospital at DMET, sources said.
Sum Hospital was given a conditional clearance while a fire safety clearance certificate was not issued, informed joint director DMET, Umakant Satapathy. “Police officials went through the documents related to Sum Hospital’s application for fire clearance as well as other approvals for the hospital. We have submitted the corresponding files,” said Satapathy.
Police also visited the Fire Services Department office at Kalpana Square to investigate regarding the action taken for conducting rescue operation on October 17 when a fire broke out in the ICU of the Dialysis ward at the Sum Hospital in which 27 have died so far while over 100 injured.
“We investigated about the time of call for fire rescue operation and time taken for the fire fighting units to reach the spot. We are also finding out what steps were taken during the operation and if any laxity occurred at the fire department’s end,” said a police official.
