Bhubaneswar: The Capital Hospital authority here on Saturday have confirmed completion of autopsy reports of 19 deceased persons victimized during the SUM Hospital fire tragedy and has been sent for the perusal of the police.
Director of Capital Hospital Biswabhusan Patnaik said the reports have been sent for the perusal of the police who will carry out the subsequent investigations.
“We know what the reasons of the death are but since we are not authorized to disclose them we cannot say anything about it. It is the duty of the police from now henceforth to carry on the investigations,” he said.
While asked about the possible outcomes and credibility of the autopsy, he said “we do not see the reports what is inside but only confirm whether it is complete or not. Besides, the reports are very credible as they would reveal the exact reasons of the death. Whether their death happened before or after the fire or due to any other reasons at all,” he added.
It is worthwhile to mention here that in a very brazen and hair raising incident on Monday evening a sudden fire broke out in the dialysis ward of the hospital. In spite of all vociferous rescue operations 19 lives could not be saved. Besides, since then six others have also succumbed to critical injuries making the toll rise to 25 in number.
In the first few hours during the rescue operations dozens of critically injured persons were recovered from the fire. While 14 of them initially rushed to Capital Hospital were declared dead, five others died at AMRI Hospital. Autopsy was carried out on all the 19 bodies at Capital Hospital.
As per information, the post mortem on the 19 bodies was done between October 18 and 19 by two doctors Laxmikant Behera and Pratap Sathpathy.
