Bhubaneswar: Two trustees of the Siksha O Anusandhan (SOA) Charitable Trust were interrogated by Khandagiri police today as part of investigation process of the Sum Hospital fire incident. Both these trustees, Saswati Das and Arati Nayak were granted anticipatory bail earlier.
Khandagiri police today visited the Trust premises to question Saswati and Arati. As per police sources, both have denied any involvement with the administration of the hospital citing it is runs as per UGC guidelines. Though usually those issued notices are supposed to visit police for supporting in investigation, here police had to pay a visit to the trustees.
Police had issued a lookout circular against Saswati Das and husband Manoj Nayak on October 19, two days after the fire outbreak at Sum hospital. While Manoj had surrendered and later got conditional bail, Saswati and Arati had avoided interrogation by failing to appear before the police three times seeking extension citing health reasons. They were granted conditional bail by the Orissa High Court on November 24.
The Sum fire mishap on October 17 had caused 19 immediate deaths while 11 more died later during treatment.
