Bhubaneswar: The death toll in Sum Hospital fire outbreak has reached 24 with three deaths occurring on Thursday late night. While two victims were admitted in Capital Hospital after shifting from Sum another victim under treatment at the Trauma care unit of SCB Medical also died.
“There were not enough beds at AIIMS when our patient was admitted after being shifted from SUM so his admission to Capital Hospital was delayed. This worsened his condition and led to death,” said a relative of a patient who died at Capital Hospital.
On Monday, a fire broke out at Sum Hospital and due to insufficient fore safety measures, wherein 19 died and over 100 were injured. Later two more patients had succumbed on Tuesday. The kin of the dead victims will be given an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh by state government and Rs 2 lakh by central government while Siksha O Anusandhan University that runs Sum hospital has promised Rs 5 lakh.
