Bhubaneswar : Manoj Nayak’s wife Saswati Das and sister Arati Nayak, the trustees of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) Charitable Trust who run the Institute of Medical Science (IMS) and SUM Hospital, have again failed to appear in the Khandagiri police station for investigation into the fire mishap case in the hospital last October 17. They cited health grounds for not appearing before police on Friday.
Earlier on October 27, police had summoned the duo and one other SOA trustee to appear within 7 days for interrogation and record their statement after issuing Lookout Circulars against them. But failing to appear, the trustees had sought for 15 days time extension citing health problems, that ended on Friday. This is for the third time that they have again sought for extension of seven days to appear before the police.
Earlier, in a tragic incident, fire broke out in the dialysis ward of the hospital claiming around 19 lives on the same day. The death toll has now reached 31 with another victim succumbing on Friday.
Following the incident, owner of the hospital Manoj Nayak along with five other persons were arrested under Section 304,308 and 285/34 of IPC. Nayak and another official of the hospital were granted conditional bail.
