Bhubaneswar: The security has been beefed up in the colleges in Odisha ahead of Students’ union poll today to ensure that the elections pass off peacefully.
As per the schedule, election would start from 8 am to 2 pm and the results would be announced in the day. The oath-taking ceremony would be held on the next day.
At the ‘What I stand for’ meetings concluding on Friday, the candidates spoke about their plans and promises for development of their institutions. While some of them promised to make the campuses clean and green, some others assured to improve the infrastructure and ranking of their institutions.
Election fever gripped the Rama Devi Women’s University in Bhubaneswar, Sailabala Women’s College in Cuttack, SVM College in Jagatsinghpur and FM College in Balasore and a number of other colleges.
Notably, Students’ Union polls in 33 colleges and in the Utkal University have been cancelled due to violence. The authorities of the Ravenshaw University and the Khallikote University this year opted for indirect elections to the students’ bodies but failed to hold such polls due to opposition from students.
