Koraput: The body of one more trapped JCB operator was recovered from a stone quarry at Bariput in Koraput district on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Sanjay Dash, a resident of Athagarh in Cuttack. Earlier the rescue team had recovered the body of JCB operator Ghanshyam Guru of Deogarh district on June 10.
The body was handed over to the family members after postmortem. Koraput collector, SP and other officials were present at the quarry site.
According to sources, the two JCB operators were busy excavating boulders by JCBs at the stone quarry around 7 pm on May 31 when the quarry caved in.
A joint team of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and fire officials were engaged at the quarry to rescue the JCB operators. Subsequently, a team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was also roped in, but in vain.
Later, the administration sought the help of Indian army. A team of army engineers from Ranchi conducted series of minor blasts at the quarry and managed to recover the one body on June 10. Ghanshyam’s brother had confirmed the identity of the body.
The rescue team again carried out blasting on Thursday and recovered Sanjay’s body. While the rescue work has been suspended following the recovery of the body, the locals demanded the arrest of the owner of DD Construction Limited.
