Bhubaneswar: The State Government today revised the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) counseling fee structure following suggestions from the Odisha Private Engineering Colleges Association (OPECA).
As per the revised structure, general candidates will now have to pay `10,000 instead of `25,000 and SC, ST and differently-abled students will pay `5,000 to register for the counselling process in BTech courses.
The State Government, in a notification issued earlier this year, hiked the counselling from `5000 for all category candidates to `25,000.
’The OJEE has decided to cut down the fees for general candidates to `10,000. The fees for SC, ST and physically disabled candidates will remain at par with the previous year’s fee,’’ OJEE Chairman Tushar Nath said. Odisha Private Engineering Colleges’ Association (OPECA) had requested the OJEE committee to reduce the fee structure as it would hurt economically weaker students.
‘’Around 30 per cent of students who sit for the counselling are from economically weaker sections. OPECA had been opposing the quantum of fees for a long time,’’ OPECA secretary Binod Dash said.
According to the new guidelines, the students of JEE (Main) can register and opt for choices on the website of Odisha Joint Entrance Examination after which temporary seats will be allotted to them.
