Bhubaneswar: As many as 120 doctors appointed by the state government who are absconding from duty before 2014 have been issued notices to report on duty in 15 days time failing which they will be dismissed from their services. The health department has taken this action against them since they have ignored many notices earlier.
Health department officials on Tuesday informed that a disciplinary action will be taken against all doctors who have not reported on duty since 2014. In a similar step taken by the state government last year in November, 408 doctors were dismissed from service. These doctors were continuing working at various private hospitals despite appointment by government. Many have even traveled abroad during their appointment term.
Doctors appointed for interior and rural areas are often absconding from duty leading to dismal health situation in tribal and rural areas.
It may be noted that the there are 4877 sanctioned posts under the state health and family welfare department of which 1085 are vacant. The process for appointment of 808 posts has been initiated by the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC). The state government has appointed 363 doctors already this year.
