Bhubaneswar: The farmers’ suicide issue once again stalled the State Assembly on Thursday as the BJP MLA’s insisted on a debate and the Congress members demanded stringent action against Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy and Bargarh Collector for giving untrue information to the House on the suicide case of a Bargarh farmer.
Notably, the Assembly has been adjourned several times in this session over similar issues. Congress and BJP created uproar from the beginning of the session. Soon after Speaker Niranjan Pujari called for the Question Hour, BJP and Congress members trouped into the well of the House and shouted anti-government slogans following which Speaker Pujari adjourned the session for an hour.
However, being concerned over the issue opposition leader Narasingha Mishra raised questions before the House and requested the Speaker to take a call on a privilege motion to be brought against Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy.
