Puri: A day after the Supreme Court passed a slew of directions while hearing a petition over alleged mismanagement and harassment of devotees at Jagannath temple in Puri, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) on Saturday asked servitors not to receive offerings/donations by devotees.

The temple administration issued a circular in which it stated, “As per the direction of the Supreme Court all devotees, Srimandir servitors and other workers are hereby informed that the servitors cannot accept the donations and offerings made by the devotees. The devotees are requested to make their offerings/donations either in Hundi or at temple head office, branch offices and collect receipts.”

A bench of justices Adarsh Kumar Goel and Ashok Bhushan of the top court while hearing a petition filed by Mrinalini Padhi of Cuttack had yesterday directed the temple administrator to ensure that no direct collection of the offerings is made by any servitor and all the offerings are deposited and properly utilized.
