Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of the Sports Climbing Complex at Kalinga Stadium organised by Sports and Youth Services department here. It is the first international standard sports climbing complex of the state.
This world class project will be built with a budget of Rs 3.70 crore, following rules of International Sports Climbing Federation. Sports climbing has been chosen as a new sports discipline in 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The sports climbing complex with facility for the lead, speed and bouldering wall competition will help promote the adventure sport and groom talents of the state. It would also develop sports climbers from the state to train and practice for different national and international events in sports climbing.
On this occasion MP Prasanna Kumar Patasani, Sports and Youth Services Minister Sudam Marndi, director Ananta Kishore Jena, Secretary Vishal Dev, MLA Priyadarshi Mishra and Bijaya Mohanty were also present.
