Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Shilpi Swarupa Das has created history in Odisha tennis by becoming the first girl to win any all India title in the women’s category. She took the AITA 50k men and women’s ranking tennis tournament doubles title in Patna by partnering with Sara Yadav of Madhya Pradesh. They defeated Aditi Shreya (Bihar) and partner Shruti Gupta (West Bengal) by 6-4, 6-2.
However, she lost to Shruti Gupta (West Bengal) by 6-3, 6-2 in the quarter-finals in the singles event. Shilpi’s current singles rank in India is 74 and in doubles her rank is 76 in the country. She is also currently the no. 1 women’s tennis player of Odisha.
After addition of 8 points from this Patna tournament, her ranking is expected to reach to the top 50 in the doubles category. Currently, she is taking training under Santosh Kumar Mallik in Kalinga Stadium.
