Sheep deaths: Panic triggers Jagatsinghpur villagers after Niali

Jagatsinghpur: While the killing of sheep at Niali in Cuttack district by wild animals continued unabated with the death of one more sheep on Thursday night, such incidents were also reported at Alipingala in Jagatsinghpur district where nine sheep were killed by an unknown predator.

Reportedly, nine sheep were killed and three others injured at Rayapatana village in the Alipingal area of Jagatsingpur district late on Thursday night.

Later, irate locals blocked the Alipingal-Jagatsinghpur main road demanding adequate compensation to the affected sheep-rearer. Police reached the spot and pacified the agitators.

Forest officials, who reached the spot, said the predators from Niali might have crossed the river and reached Jagatsinghpur district. Though there are no jungles in Jagatsinghpur district, they are tracking the wild animals.

In Niali block, on Thursday night, while one sheep was killed, two others were injured at Bilasuni village despite efforts by forest officials to track the ‘mysterious killer animals’.

A special team from the Similipal National Park, equipped with tranquiliser guns and drone cameras is still in Niali to trap the predators, but they are yet to get any success.
