Bhubaneswar: The trial procedure of the casting couch case against Odia comedian Papu Pom Pom yesterday hit a hurdle after the public prosecutor Suman Priyadarsi representing the victim in the criminal trial, quit the case.
As the victim’s console quit the case in midway, the statement of the minor girl and her mother could not be recorded under section 164 CrPC on Thursday.
According to sources, a special government lawyer will be appointed in prior response to the plea of Twin City Commissioner of Police for conducting the criminal proceedings and hearing in the case which will begin after two weeks.
Notably, The Mahila Police had submitted a chargesheet against comic actor Tattwa Prakash Satpathy aka Papu Pom Pom and producer Pradipta Swain in the casting couch case in April basing on the complaint lodged by the victim.
The charges were framed against the actor on July 1 in connection with the case under sections 341, 323 and 354 of the IPC and Sections 8 and 12 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Papu is accused of sexually exploiting a minor girl on pretext of giving her a break in a movie. The girl had brought allegation against the actor on June 25 last year.
