Seven held for kidnapping, demanding Rs 20L ransom in Angul

Angul: In a major breakthrough, Angul police today arrested seven persons for allegedly kidnapping a contractor and demanding a ransom amount of Rs 20 lakh to the victim’s wife.

The accused have been identified as Sheikh Latif, Shiekh Rafiq, Sheikh Sharif and Raju Khan of Kendrapara, Sujit Mukhi, Rohit Pradhan, Sudarsan Loha and Madan Pradhan of Kishor Nagar under Angul town police limits in the district.


According to police sources, the accused abducted the contractor, N Mangalabhanu and his supervisor from Angul bus stand in an Indica car and held them captive for a night at Nakchi Forest in Angul on July 26.

After the victim’s wife received a phone call from the kidnappers demanding a ransom amount of Rs 20 lakh, she sought the help of local police to rescue her husband.

Acting on the basis of the complaint, SDPO RN Deo formed two teams and conducted search operations in accordance with mobile tracking device. The accused were nabbed after the cops set a honey trap and informed them to collect the ransom amount at a specific location following which the gang was busted.

A case has been registered with number-396/17 and the accused were booked under Section 364 (A) of the IPC. The accused are suspected to have links with Kendrapara-based Gangster Haider.
