New York: Six-time champion Serena Williams stormed into the final after she defeated Anastasija Sevastova with 6-3, 6-0 scoreline in the semi-final at the US Open championship on Friday.
Serena in the finals will face Japan’s Naomi Osaka for the title on Saturday.
Naomi Osaka entered to final after she defeated Madison Keys 6-2, 6-4 in the semi-final. For the first time in the history of tennis she became the first Japanese woman to reach a Grand Slam final.
Williams, in the first set was seen a bit shaky at the start, but managed to come back and restored the match in just 66 minutes to beat the 19th-seeded Latvian and reached her 31st grand slam final.
Showing her best performance particularly up at the net, she grabbed 12 out of 13 games to beat Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia 6-3, 6-0 and reached her ninth final.
With one more victory, Williams will earn her seventh US Open championship and her 24th major singles trophy, equaling Margaret Court for the most in history of tennis.
