Bengaluru: Senior Kannada journalist and social activist Gauri Lankesh was shot dead on Tuesday evening at her residence here. She served as the editor of Lankesh Patrika as well. The 55-year-old editor had stepped out of her car and opened the gates when the attackers fired at her seven times. Four bullets hit her, one in the forehead.
According to the Bengaluru police, some unidentified men fired 7 rounds of bullets at Gauri while she was about to enter her house at Rajarajeshwari colony. Four of seven bullets missed the target but three bullets hit her. One bullet of the three penetrated her forehead while the other two hit her chest.
Even as the police rushed to the crime scene, the body of the victim was found lying near the porch of the house.
A manhunt has been launched by the state police to nab the assailants earlier.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddharamaiah called on the state police DG and city DCP to nab the assailants soon.
